Collectors & their collection vol. 3.
The book PET SOUNDS edited by Alberto Vieceli – author of “Holding the Camera”, “Animal Greetings from the UK”, “Ok Ok, twin postcards”, “Saluti dal Mare, 212 postcards” and co author of “The End of Books”, “336 books and 336 pages” and “Money” – was shortlisted in this year's Arles books Awards in the historical book category. The volume showcases 320 record covers that have one thing in common: they depict musicians and animals. Of course there are reoccuring themes and situations: animals sitting or laying on the piano next to the artist, artists riding horses or holding their dear pets close to their chests, pet portraits and close-ups, and artists casually leaning back sharing the frame with a majestic dog or cat.
After we were able to browse through the book in Arles we reached out to the Alberto Vieceli who was kind enough to share his collection with us, so here is our subjective selection of 20 record covers – mostly with artists having a close encounter with their pets or exotic animals:
