Eidolon Club vol. 12: The People’s Pictures – Photoworks and Eidolon Centre celebrate all photographs vernacular

Photoworks and Eidolon Centre for Everyday Photography organised an afternoon of talks celebrating vernacular photography and the importance of everyday image-making, developed in collaboration with the University of Westminster and in conjunction with Photoworks' publication, Photography+.

The event took place on March 23, 2026, at Fyvie Hall, University of Westminster, in London.
In the coming weeks, we will publish the two roundtable discussions and two presentations from the programme, one by one.

This week, we are publishing the first panel, titled Parallel Pictures: Everyday Images, Circulation and the Archive. The panel, convened by Photoworks, brings together Photography+ contributors Laura Havlin and Carolina Semprucci to explore how vernacular photography reveals gaps and silences in photographic archives, and how digital images are reshaping authorship, amateurism, and memory. The discussion is moderated by Amin Yousefi, assistant curator and editor of Photography+.

Bence Földvári Varga, also known as “Husi,” has a passion for old digital cameras, which has also evolved into his business practice. He travels through diverse places to collect cameras that have been thrown away, lost, or, for reasons unknown, ended up in the drawers of other people or even on the dirty ground of organised waste collections and marketplaces. Now, he has a collection of around 5,000 photographs. We asked him about the roots of his practice, the tendencies found in the collection and also on his views on private photography & his motives on collecting.
