We are happy to announce a new chapter for the Vernacular Social Club: the club is joining forces with eidolon centre for Everyday Photography, bringing together two initiatives with a shared interest in vernacular photography, everyday images, and the stories hidden within them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Founded in 2023 by Jean-Marie Donat, Thomas Sauvin, Lukas Birk and Christophe Thiebaut, the Vernacular Social Club is an international, non-profit association dedicated to promoting and disseminating vernacular documents. It brings together photographers, collectors, researchers, artists and anyone curious about the images that exist outside the established histories of photography. Family photographs, snapshots, anonymous archives, utilitarian images and other visual traces of everyday life can tell us a great deal about the societies that produced them-and the club is interested in giving these often overlooked images the attention they deserve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through events, publications, podcasts and other projects, the club has created a space for sharing ideas and looking at vernacular images from social, political, cultural and artistic perspectives. At the heart of this activity is ReVu, its publication: a space for photographs, archives, texts and ideas, bringing together different ways of looking at vernacular images.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To celebrate this, ReVu is now coming back with a new edition: Metamorphosis.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The title is borrowed from Kafka, but it also feels particularly fitting for this moment. The Vernacular Social Club itself is undergoing a transformation- physically, creatively, and perhaps even spiritually- as it becomes part of Eidolon and takes on a new form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the new issue, we are inviting contributions responding to the theme of Metamorphosis.<\/em> We are interested in visual works, but also in short texts, stories, fragments, archives and other ways of thinking through transformation, transition, change and becoming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Send us your submissions by 20 September at info@everydayphotography.org<\/a>. We are planning to publish the new issue in November. Join us, and let us see what metamorphosis means to you.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of this new chapter, we will also be revisiting the Vernacular Social Club\u2019s membership model. The club introduced membership when it was founded three years ago, but has not had an annual membership since then. As we relaunch the programme, we would like to introduce a simple yearly membership that will help support the club\u2019s ongoing activities and future projects. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Un nouveau foyer pour le Vernacular Social Club<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Nous sommes heureux d\u2019annoncer un nouveau chapitre dans l\u2019histoire du Vernacular Social Club: le club rejoint l\u2019Eidolon Centre for Everyday Photography, r\u00e9unissant ainsi deux initiatives qui partagent un m\u00eame int\u00e9r\u00eat pour la photographie vernaculaire, les images du quotidien et les histoires qui s\u2019y cachent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fond\u00e9 en 2023 par Jean-Marie Donat, Thomas Sauvin, Lukas Birk et Christophe Thiebaut, le Vernacular Social Club est une association internationale \u00e0 but non lucratif consacr\u00e9e \u00e0 la promotion et \u00e0 la diffusion de documents vernaculaires. Elle r\u00e9unit photographes, collectionneurs, chercheurs, artistes et toutes celles et ceux qui s\u2019int\u00e9ressent aux images situ\u00e9es en dehors des r\u00e9cits \u00e9tablis de l\u2019histoire de la photographie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Photographies de famille, instantan\u00e9s, archives anonymes, images utilitaires et autres traces visuelles du quotidien peuvent nous apprendre \u00e9norm\u00e9ment sur les soci\u00e9t\u00e9s qui les ont produites. Le club souhaite justement accorder \u00e0 ces images souvent n\u00e9glig\u00e9es toute l\u2019attention qu\u2019elles m\u00e9ritent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00c0 travers des \u00e9v\u00e9nements, des publications, des podcasts et d\u2019autres projets, le club a cr\u00e9\u00e9 un espace pour partager des id\u00e9es et regarder les images vernaculaires sous des angles sociaux, politiques, culturels et artistiques. Au c\u0153ur de cette activit\u00e9 se trouve ReVu, sa publication, un espace consacr\u00e9 aux photographies, aux archives, aux textes et aux id\u00e9es, o\u00f9 se rencontrent diff\u00e9rentes fa\u00e7ons de regarder et de penser les images vernaculaires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pour c\u00e9l\u00e9brer cette nouvelle \u00e9tape, ReVu revient aujourd\u2019hui avec un nouveau num\u00e9ro: Metamorphosis<\/em>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le titre est emprunt\u00e9 \u00e0 Kafka, mais il nous semble particuli\u00e8rement juste pour ce moment. Le Vernacular Social Club traverse lui-m\u00eame une transformation, physique, cr\u00e9ative et peut-\u00eatre m\u00eame spirituelle, en rejoignant Eidolon et en prenant une nouvelle forme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pour ce nouveau num\u00e9ro, nous invitons les contributions autour du th\u00e8me de Metamorphosis.<\/em> Nous recherchons bien s\u00fbr des travaux visuels, mais aussi des textes courts, des r\u00e9cits, des fragments, des archives et toutes autres mani\u00e8res de penser la transformation, la transition, le changement et le devenir.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dans le cadre de ce nouveau chapitre, nous allons \u00e9galement repenser le fonctionnement de l\u2019adh\u00e9sion au Vernacular Social Club. Le club avait lanc\u00e9 un syst\u00e8me d\u2019adh\u00e9sion lors de sa cr\u00e9ation il y a trois ans, mais il n\u2019y a pas eu depuis de cotisation annuelle r\u00e9guli\u00e8re. Avec la relance du programme, nous souhaitons mettre en place une adh\u00e9sion annuelle simple, qui contribuera \u00e0 soutenir les activit\u00e9s du club et ses futurs projets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
