We are happy to announce a new chapter for the Vernacular Social Club: the club is joining forces with eidolon centre for Everyday Photography, bringing together two initiatives with a shared interest in vernacular photography, everyday images, and the stories hidden within them.
Founded in 2023 by Jean-Marie Donat, Thomas Sauvin, Lukas Birk and Christophe Thiebaut, the Vernacular Social Club is an international, non-profit association dedicated to promoting and disseminating vernacular documents. It brings together photographers, collectors, researchers, artists and anyone curious about the images that exist outside the established histories of photography. Family photographs, snapshots, anonymous archives, utilitarian images and other visual traces of everyday life can tell us a great deal about the societies that produced them-and the club is interested in giving these often overlooked images the attention they deserve.
Through events, publications, podcasts and other projects, the club has created a space for sharing ideas and looking at vernacular images from social, political, cultural and artistic perspectives. At the heart of this activity is ReVu, its publication: a space for photographs, archives, texts and ideas, bringing together different ways of looking at vernacular images.
To celebrate this, ReVu is now coming back with a new edition: Metamorphosis.
The title is borrowed from Kafka, but it also feels particularly fitting for this moment. The Vernacular Social Club itself is undergoing a transformation- physically, creatively, and perhaps even spiritually- as it becomes part of Eidolon and takes on a new form.
For the new issue, we are inviting contributions responding to the theme of Metamorphosis. We are interested in visual works, but also in short texts, stories, fragments, archives and other ways of thinking through transformation, transition, change and becoming.
Send us your submissions by 20 September at info@everydayphotography.org. We are planning to publish the new issue in November. Join us, and let us see what metamorphosis means to you.
As part of this new chapter, we will also be revisiting the Vernacular Social Club’s membership model. The club introduced membership when it was founded three years ago, but has not had an annual membership since then. As we relaunch the programme, we would like to introduce a simple yearly membership that will help support the club’s ongoing activities and future projects.

Un nouveau foyer pour le Vernacular Social Club
Nous sommes heureux d’annoncer un nouveau chapitre dans l’histoire du Vernacular Social Club: le club rejoint l’Eidolon Centre for Everyday Photography, réunissant ainsi deux initiatives qui partagent un même intérêt pour la photographie vernaculaire, les images du quotidien et les histoires qui s’y cachent.
Fondé en 2023 par Jean-Marie Donat, Thomas Sauvin, Lukas Birk et Christophe Thiebaut, le Vernacular Social Club est une association internationale à but non lucratif consacrée à la promotion et à la diffusion de documents vernaculaires. Elle réunit photographes, collectionneurs, chercheurs, artistes et toutes celles et ceux qui s’intéressent aux images situées en dehors des récits établis de l’histoire de la photographie.
Photographies de famille, instantanés, archives anonymes, images utilitaires et autres traces visuelles du quotidien peuvent nous apprendre énormément sur les sociétés qui les ont produites. Le club souhaite justement accorder à ces images souvent négligées toute l’attention qu’elles méritent.
À travers des événements, des publications, des podcasts et d’autres projets, le club a créé un espace pour partager des idées et regarder les images vernaculaires sous des angles sociaux, politiques, culturels et artistiques. Au cœur de cette activité se trouve ReVu, sa publication, un espace consacré aux photographies, aux archives, aux textes et aux idées, où se rencontrent différentes façons de regarder et de penser les images vernaculaires.
Pour célébrer cette nouvelle étape, ReVu revient aujourd’hui avec un nouveau numéro: Metamorphosis.
Le titre est emprunté à Kafka, mais il nous semble particulièrement juste pour ce moment. Le Vernacular Social Club traverse lui-même une transformation, physique, créative et peut-être même spirituelle, en rejoignant Eidolon et en prenant une nouvelle forme.
Pour ce nouveau numéro, nous invitons les contributions autour du thème de Metamorphosis. Nous recherchons bien sûr des travaux visuels, mais aussi des textes courts, des récits, des fragments, des archives et toutes autres manières de penser la transformation, la transition, le changement et le devenir.

Dans le cadre de ce nouveau chapitre, nous allons également repenser le fonctionnement de l’adhésion au Vernacular Social Club. Le club avait lancé un système d’adhésion lors de sa création il y a trois ans, mais il n’y a pas eu depuis de cotisation annuelle régulière. Avec la relance du programme, nous souhaitons mettre en place une adhésion annuelle simple, qui contribuera à soutenir les activités du club et ses futurs projets.
